Slide out roof and leaves

I don't have a slide. I saw a man at the park once that had a broom with the handle built in such a way that he could reach up there from the ground and sweep off the slide. Nothing as fancy as the broom I saw in the first page of this post though.

I climb the ladder and broom them off , fortunately able to do so at this point in life. When i can't then we'll add toppers or throw a few bucks at one of the campground kids.

Let me start by saying I am handicapped and can't climb a ladder. My wife is afraid to climb one so I had to come up with another idea. I put a camera on a pole and use my Garmin as a monitor to inspect the slides first. If they need to be cleaned off we just use a heavy towel with a nylon cord tied to each end. Throw one cord over the slide and then we can pull the towel back and forth across the slide until cleaned off. We have three slides and it takes fifteen to twenty minutes to clean them all.

Since we have rack on truck for kayaks, my plan (not done yet) is to attach a ladder to the rack (on posts so as not to interfere with kayaks). I have not figured it all out yet.

Currently, wife climbs ladder on back of trailer to inspect, only a few leaves so far that were easily removed with broom..

leaves aren't near the problem that pine needles are. We quickly gave up cleaning the top etc. since we most often camp in the trees and went with slide toppers. problem solved.

But if you don't want a slide topper, then a ladder and broom is probably the best alternative

Twice I have had to clean off my slide. Once for leaves, once for snow.

Both times I was able to stand on the tailgate with a broom. Now I carry a short step ladder.

A leaf blower would be handy, but I already have enough stuff to carry.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds like a cheap leaf blower is the ticket. I don't think slide toppers are an ideal solution during windy fall days. As stated above, once the leaves get under the topper and onto the roof, you are back to climbing again.

The trick to avoiding ice build up on the slide top is to periodically remove it when it's still snow but unless it's light, fluffy stuff you're going to need a ladder and broom as no leaf blower is going to remove heavy, wet snow or ice.

ONLY a ladder and a means to sweep snow or chip ice off the top of the slide is going to work in these conditions. A slide topper would sag from the weight of snow and although that could be offset somewhat by inserting a couple of pool noodles on the slide roof that would require ... you guessed it - a ladder. :W

Did the ladder and broom thing for quit a few years. Only a few close calls having to jump off falling ladder. The slides on our new fiver are to tall. I use a leaf blower with gutter cleaning kit. Works great.
