Slideout stabilizers

I took out the factory couch in my tt and put in a Lazy-boy recliner loveseat. This all takes place on my slide out. My concern is that the loveseat is heavier than the factory couch and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be prudent to start using stabilizers under the slide out from now on? What's everyone's thoughts on that? I don't know how strong the frame work is under the slide outs. Its a 2011 Jayco G2 28 foot trailer.
  • I had to buy my own water pressure regulator. Guess I should throw it away now since the manufacturer did not provide one!:B That's kind of silly though, trying to out-figure the manufacturer! :E

Serious... if your camper is on a seasonal-permanent site, the slide stabilizers may be a benefit, provided your camper is stabilized itself very will. But, if your camper is (mobile, meaning you movie it a lot), I think it could cause more problems than it's worth, especially the risk of the trailer shaking and moving and the slides cannot shift with the body of the camper.

Edit ... remember, your slide is not only supported from the bottom (the floor), but it is also supported at the top. Otherwise it would fall out! Your slide is much stronger than it appears. I don't think you have any problems with the new furniture.

That was in jest about the water regulator. The manufacturer does not include a lot of items that some RVers deem necessary. Are slide stabilizers necessary for all.. No.. Are they beneficial for some... Yes..

There are tons of good reviews for these stabilizers from those that actually use them. Some say there great for taking the movement out of the trailer and they do. Some say there necessary for long stays....

Most all negative remarks come from people who have never used them. Used properly I think there great.

    ......

Actually on my last two rv's, the manufacturers did supply a water pressure regulator. They also both stated in their respective manuals not to use any supports under the slideouts.

  • Not sure about your trailer, but my 2011 Jayco Flight manual says do NOT use. Even if I changed out my sofa to the one with the recliners, my slide is still not very deep.

I'm going to give an opinion based on actual experience using slide stabilizers, not guessing. They work great if used properly. I have had a flat tire while the slide was supported with a stabilizer. Not a problem because the trailer frame was properly supported.

I use the stabilizers when my grown boys come to stay. A lot of weight and horsing around added to the slide out. I also use them on long stays on firm groun.

Opp.. I doubt the new couch warrants stabilizers but if you decided to use some, just make sure your trailer frame is properly supported and don't put to much pressure on the slide stabilizers. Use them to support..

As with most everything else, if used improperly they could cause damage.
  • Did your RV MFG. supply slide out supports............NO!

    Hummmmmmmmmmmmm wonder why?

HERE is a short article about slideout supports.

Just because a product is offered by the aftermarket doesn't mean it is needed, required or is even an improvement....just means there is a product for sale.

Just like anode rods for Atwood water heaters.
  • Never should use them. If the trailer settles a bit it can shift weight to the slides and cause cracks in the siding above the slide.

It will be fine. I would never put any form of stabaliser under a slideout.

I had a neighbor of mine in Myrtle Beach have a tire blow out on his TT as it was sitting in his site last fall. Had there been anything under the slideout, it might have damaged it and thrown it out of alignment.
  • I would not put anything under the slide out to hold it up. Any shifting of the rig will mess with it.
  • Can't imagine it being that much heavier, my concern would be the in and out of the slide if it was too heavy. I say no to the slide stabilizers.
