Simply amazing! She would not be able to sit or sleep anywhere in our's; sofa, chairs, dinette and bed are all on various slides ! :E

Lots of snake oil examples for RV stuff out there for ex.: Lippert sells an awful of electric 'stabilizers' for trailers... Sounds like a good idea until you have them and find out awful they are at stabilizing. Not to worry though because Lippert sells stabilizer struts for your stabilizers! They get you once for the pricey stabilizers and again for a fix but even the fix can leave some wanting better stabilizing and you've gotta add screw or hydraulic jacks in addition. :M

If you want to use a slide stabilizer, I'd make darn sure that the frame is firmly planted to the ground in as many location under the frame as needed. Pads or blocks under frame supports (scissor, elec. stab., or other jacks) should not rest on sod or loose soil that can settle. Even then, as per others, don't think it's a good idea. You might find that if your frame is well supported, you won't need a stabilizer for the slide.

Drive through any seasonal trailer park and you will see all kinds of supports for slideouts. Then again, most of them are jacked up on concrete or cinder blocks so there is no movement at all.

My slide consists of the kitchen and the sofa. Using the sink or stove does not put any weight on the slide. Sitting on the couch does put weight on the slide. However, it is only 2' deep, so I don't see how supports under the slide would help in any way.

I saw a TV show on RVs that stated the slideout was invented in 1992. So is that different than when tipouts were used?

deltabravo hit the nail on the head. I still hear some folks use the term "tip out" too. I even saw a trailer that had them about a year ago. Never did figure out how you tip them out. Brute strength and a couple of helpers I guess.

Slide-out stabilizers are a thing of a bygone era - something fromtthe 70s, when some big 5th wheels had "tip-out" rooms.
Funny thing is, I still hear that term in use today - old timers will call a slide-out a "tip-out"

Tip-out rooms did indeed need the support.

I don't have slider stabilizers, and so far have not seen the need. I can certainly understand why one of the posters would see the value though... If I had a couple of 200 lb kids horsing around in my slide room, I'd consider it as well.

I would think, set up properly, just using the stabilizer to stabilize not "lift", wouldn't be a problem. But, I have no direct experience.

So far I see only one post of actual experience.

At the point when I made my post, 10 people didn't agree that it was a good idea. Some of the previous post were regarding the money making part of the question.

We use them on an Arctic Fox but they are made so they won't bend anyway. You could jack ours up and roll it over with the rails. If you want to use them, I'd say go ahead. Don't bend the rails and they won't bind.
