As silly as this might sound, I believe there is merit in doing this. It hadn't occurred to me to check this, but I'm going to next time I tow in the rain. A little negative pressure from the vent being open in the trailer will draw in mist at every opportunity.
Ours started leaking a little in heavy rain too after 5 years. The seal is still intact, but not pushing up against the bottom of the slide as hard as it used to. I'm thinking of making a shield for mine also. Thanks for the tips folks! - fdwt994ExplorerAlthough not exactly the same thing, we had a Roo Hybrid that would leak in the slide from the bottom up. Turns out some luan underneath was exposed and wicking the water up. Some silicone over the luan solved the problem.

- camper_chipExplorerthanks to all. tonight I looked closer, on the end of each slide when shut I put a flashlight under and yes from the inside u can see the light shining thru an good 2 fingers worth so. and all of the road grime was laying there. my friend has a jayco and those slides seal much tighter at the bottom.
- dodge_guyExplorer IIYes i had that happen in our current trailer. The seal under the slide is directly above the center of the tires. I brought it home from the dealer after some warranty work (no water leak concerns) it was raining on the way home, and found the carpet at the reat if the slideout soaked!!!! What I did was make a shield to keep water off the seals. This has worked great. I have towed in rain with some being heavy for hours and no dampness at all.
- kearlmsExplorerUnfortunately this is one of the reasons we no longer have slides. On the last one we had with slides we never could get it to seal. So to the dealer it went and we no longer have slides.
- downtheroadExplorerWelcome to the Forum...your first post.
Advice: A 2014 unit....Back to the dealer now. This much water intrusion is bad news and needs addressing. The longer you wait, the more major damage will result. - kknowltonExplorer IIWere you using the slide lock arm(s)? We read that they are to help keep the seals tight on the slides when the slides are not deployed. If you were, then you may need to have the slideout adjusted, or the seals checked/replaced. Good luck!
