This isn't something to ignore. Under the right conditions, it could kill ANY warm-blooded animal (human, dog, cat, anything) in seconds.
It is recommended that virtually every camper should be tested every time it is taken out, for this condition.
This is too complicated to go into in this Post. Have a read here-->
Okay I read the article and I thought well I have both a volt meter and the pen thing to check for electricity. There is one possibility that there was ac at the time I felt the charge and that is if my inverter was on charging a phone or tablet as we drove down the road. So I turned it on and found both the neutral side and the hot side to be hot. I then got out the voltage meter and each side is showing 65 to 75 volts. Now how in the hell does that happen????? The inverter is a cheap 600 watt inverter that has worked on our just completed 11 day trip. It has charged phone and tablet batteries as well as run the satellite and TV with no problems. Now I went and tested my 2000 watt xantrex inverter in all the same fashions on my 5th wheel. Guess what one side is neutral and the other is hot just as its suppose to be. It also puts out 120 volts.
I have this inverter screwed to the side of my old generator compartment that is now used for storage. I connected the wires that ran from the battery to the generator for the starter to the inverter. They are good heavy wires. I then connected the inverter plug to the 12 gauge wires than run to the 30 amp receptacle that you plug into when using the now removed generator on my truck camper so all the outlets are hot in the camper. By golly they are all hot on both sides. So now the next question is do you think this could cause the skin of the camper to become charged. Also what would cause both sides to be hot?
It is possible the first time this happened inverter was on also. Not sure though. When plugged into shore power all the outlets work correctly.
