I remember the days of paying $5.00/gallon for diesel in '07/'08, which was right after I bought my truck and first trailer. The sticker shock of $140 fills was tough to swallow until I put it all in perspective; if I can afford to buy luxuries such as a big truck and trailer just purely for recreation, I can afford the fuel to put in it.
Even a $0.50/gallon price spike only works out to an additional $35 per 1,000 miles at 15 MPG. We all know diesel prices will settle down after the cold snap is over (or gas prices will shoot up to match them!).
I get a kick out of my friends with gassers bragging about how cheap gas is compared to diesel during the winter, but then they get real quiet in the summer when the prices equalize or gas shoots higher; all the while I'm averaging a steady 15 MPG and they are getting 10. :)
