Sad when dealing with the elderly, emotions unfortunately come in to play. We're going through that now. Mom always said" actions have re-actions". I'd try to make it as easy on him kas possible, perhaps letting his kids know about the situation. I would insist on repairing it professionally.

Glad its resolved, 5 min 2 part epoxy will hold up well just make sure you sand and prel the area good to get a solid bond. Once its cure block sand it with 150,220,400. Hit it with a lil bit of rattle can primer come back in with 600 wet then come back in with white. Start with one dust coat then come back with 2 full coats and should be good. Sounds like alot of work but really isnt. I work with paints and composites everyday.

I think this might best be viewed as a test of your good character...Congrats Sir, I do believe you passed!

I just got a picture today from my daughter where she was having the 7 years old grandson shoot a BB gun up at the cabin, maybe he did that.

Happy to hear you got the situation handled. Fiberglass can be repaired very nicely - I've seen it done and the results are pretty amazing. As most of us, you likely take pride in your rig and deserve to have a top notch repair. One thing is a definite - you don't want the elements like rain, snow, critters, etc. to get in there and shorten the life of your rig.

It's surprising to see the wide range of reactions to the event and suggestions on how to handle it. Personally, I tend to stay calm and not overreact, but fully expect people to do the right thing. If someone damaged my property, they should cough up the dough to fix it, whether they're 2 or 102. And that rule applies to me too! If they have trouble meeting their responsibilities, there are established systems in place to make sure they do so.

In the end, it's only a material possession, but we've all worked hard for them and want to keep the rigs in good condition. If we don't, the useful life and reliability will be undermined.

Just goes to show you that everyone needs to be careful with what's down range when they pull the trigger. Could have really hurt someone. Glad to hear he's aware of it. Hope he takes the lesson to heart. You are a good neighbor.

About the only thing that I don't think has been answered: What was he shooting at when he hit your camper?

Obviously he missed whatever he was shooting at when he hit the camper, or else he never would have come forward and admitted to shooting it. Grumpy old men angrily shooting at the "eyesore" camper would deny it to the grave.

I've been around here long enough to know that this is the point where a thread can go sideways and get deleted or moderated.

As for my neighbor, he and his wife were my wife's grandparents neighbors, circa 1960's, here before we moved into the house. So we inherited him. He's retired Navy. Served during WWII. All his boys are military or retired military. Believe me, there's nothing but integrity among them. We share the same, general, worldview on life and politics. We get along great. The bb gun was just an isolated mishap and I'm treating as that. Thanks for all the suggestions.

So at 92 and all that integrity he has already apologized and offered to pay for the repairs....correct?
