Soft floor ( sandwich )repairs results share your experience

Guys, My Jayco whitehawk 2014 24RBS is going in for repairs under warranty tuesday. Jayco agreed that my floor needs repair. They submit to the dealer and I the procedure to do the job properly...... man o man its scary.

They cut through the vinyl, cut the top luan, remove the styrofoam, weld some brace, install a plywood and reapply the vinyl flooring.

Anyone here had this job done ? if so , please share with me how the floor , and the look of the floor was after the repair....my level of confidence is really low, my dealership so far treat me well they are real nice, but its a big job and a lot can go wrong :-(

thanks for your input

  • Actually its pretty straightforward. If its not too late you should inquire about some insulation under the fixed portion of the floor. The only thing you may notice from the top is a seem in the vinyl flooring.
  • I'd bet your new floor looks as good or better than the old. Probably much sturdier, too, as the foam sandwich is the weakest link.

Wes, that "goop" is vinyl seam sealer. If done right, you can't detect a seam.

Just in case nobody is familiar with this repair, please let us know how it comes out.

We have an older 2004 camper that we bought used and the manufacturing era suffered from a batch of vinyl that shrunk, cracked and peeled up in cold weather (like in ND). Whoever repaired it must have just tacked down the old vinyl and then placed similar stick-um vinyl tiles over the top.

It looks ok, but under close inspection, it is obvious that this revamp was done. The original vinyl is pretty much laid standard over the entire camper floor (flatbed stage) before any walls, cabinets or carpet, so areas under the sink etc now remain not recovered, for instance.

In our stick home, pro kitchen vinyl installers once repaired an installation booboo with a special tube of goop. It was pretty much invisible when done and did stand up to wear. We wouldn't have known if we weren't gawking during the work.

Good luck and lets us know when you are the experienced one.
