You guys have great ideas, but remember, I am only willing to spend $20k for the combination truck/TC. I am guessing that puts me in the roughly 10K truck/ 10K TC ratio (or something like that). I have to be selective on what will give me the most bang for the buck.
My wife and I are in our late 50's, but we are pretty athletic, so the only time we spend in the camper would be at night. A couch isn't a necessity, neither is air conditioning or any other power hogging devices as we would most likely be boondocking it.
I think the previous posters want to get you into a 40,000 plus package. A truck and a camper for under 20 means you will be looking for "used". That isn't a bad thing at all. Some times with diligence you will be able to find a nice combo, truck and camper.
For example, I bought a used 1999 Ford 3500 Triton V 10 extended cab dually. Mind you it was in really good shape with only 60 thousand miles on it. (Paid 8000) I then bought a 1976 amerigo TC (paid 1200) Now mind you.... I planned on and have put approx. 8000 into the TC renovation, but once done it WILL be as good if not better than any new TC I could buy.
Under 20 and happy.
