Probably won't interest you but I store the trailer's spare tire in the front pass through storage compartment - clean, dry, out of the way, but readily available should I ever need it. Spare hoses, spare power cables sit in the well of the wheel.

I had the same problem I lenghend the vertical channel 10 inches to get the tire to clear the bumper with the cover on.

on my funfinder, the factory fit bracket is bolted to the back wall itself, so the tire is very tight and close to the wall.

edit: In order to mount one though, you would have to know where the wall "studs" ( aluminum in mine ) are.

Do you have or have access to a welder?

If so, have a few questions about the hinged spare carrier you currently have:

Will the upper part reach 90* to the base if the tire is off? Can the base be removed, and turned around 180*?

If yes to both:

My crazy idea is to mount the base on top of the bumper, with the pivot point near the tt back wall. The upper part now is attached to the base, facing to the rear (of course). Weld a couple gussets to keep the upper part 90* to the base, and nice and secure. Spare is now above the bumper somewhat, and a little closer to the tt back wall.

You won't gain a ton by moving it this way, but is an idea to ponder on!!! Otherwise back of tv, under the trailer (not possible per your post), or not sure what else to suggest! Maybe a modded tongue rack that is for a bike rack??? Not sure if you considered that as an option. I know I have seen a rack that sits above the propane tanks for a generator or similar.

Check that rear bumper and see if it handle that weight. Many TT bumpers are basically tac-welded to some kind of support that attaches to the frame, and will not handle the weight of that spare tire, especially mounted off-center vertically. Our FunFinder is fully welded right to the frame, so it will handle the weight, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

I'll ponder it some more....I might fabricate a bracket that will allow the spare to sit flush with the trailer wall while resting on the bumper.

I removed my spare tire off my TT bumper so I could replace it with a cargo carrier. I now carry the spare tire in the bed of the pick-up truck. Yes, when getting ready for a trip, I have to remember to put it back in (just in case).

Used to have the under-tongue spare mount on my 2000 Trailite, at some point it scraped on a driveway and scraped the sidewall off. Didn't notice it till we needed it.

Now have an '04 Tahoe Lite. It does not have the 4" square hollow back bumper, so the upper spare tire rack mount is a carriage bolt that comes thru from the inside 2x2 bed support. The bottom rack mount is bolted to the little 3" "c" channel bumper. Works good.

I know, the back bumper is not the place for a spare, IMO. Even if you cover the tire with an amusing, attractive cover, there is a good possibility that the cover will need replacing eventually. My spare is currently sitting in the shower stall. Of course, it will get moved when underway and I'm looking for a spare mounting solution.

They do make an under-trailer mount that hinges up between the frame rails and, in my case, will only subtract 2" or so to the clearance. I may mount the spare under the tongue, though, as any hazard will probably hit my differential or the hitch before it rips the spare off.
