Bill, since our trucks are basically the same (I having a classic 07 dally) can you offer any help to me about what you've added? (Stable loads). Top or bottom or both
The 2005 truck in sig is where I started, I bought a super hitch on CL and built the back tie downs and then added the Torklift tie down receiver brackets for the front.
The reason I'm even mentioning this is because if you've ever mounted all of this hardware you know it is not an easy task getting all up in there and drilling a lot of holes in the frame to mount them.
Then I bought the load stops from torklift and they go between the bottom overload spring and the rest of the spring pack so before you load camper (or any load that can cause sway) you engage them in between the springs.
This took all of the porpoising out of the ride, much better until a drunk driver pulled out in front of the GMC and totaled the truck :R But fortunately the camper was not loaded so after going rounds with the insurance company I was able to get my money and get all of the riggings I labored over for the next truck.
So yeah, double installation to add insult, the replacement truck came with Firestone air bags and one was flat so I took the hitch, front tie downs and load stops and reinstalled the whole package.
I was told on our trucks a stock bumper hangs from the bed down to axle housing and those are usually taken out and that is where the air spring mounts.
I did a couple of trips with just the stable loads and then I replaced the broken air spring and we really like the ride using both.
I run the slide side at about 50# and the drivers side at about 35# because the AC is Slide side heavy in a big way.
Hope this helps!
Bill
Thanks Bill. And wow, not fun getting totaled and doing that install twice!
