When out camping, I keep the hitch connected (locked in place) to the hitch receiver of the truck. The weight distribution bars slide into some square tube that I welded up under the tongue and out of sight. They lock in place. Had a friend that had his weight bars stolen at night from transients at the beach one year. He had his bars just sitting on the ground under his tongue. Mine are locked up with my custom latch I made.
When the trailer is stored away, the hitch comes off and gets tucked away in the corner of the garage.
