Stripped screws

Hello, a few weeks back I installed one of the Lend a hand accessories thinking I had screwed into a stud,, unfortunately obviously did not because yesterday I pulled it out of the outdoor wall.

Question is whether I should use drywall anchor on the outside of the camper or repair the holes and find the stud.

Thanks in advance for suggestions on type of achora or how to repair appropriately
  • Have you already located a stud and is it in a convenient place for your handle?
  • Someone must be very strong because I installed one just using screws into the outer wall and it seems to be holding. Two suggestions; one better than the other. Try bigger/thicker screws or molys or nuts and bolts thru the entire wall.
  • Wood frame or aluminum frame? You might be able to explore in the new access holes that you drilled. You must screw into wood or a metal frame piece if you expect it hold. Forget wall anchors.
  • One of the first things I do on a new rig is on a cool morning take pictures of the moisture patterns and the studs stand out.

Not to mention lots of other pictures which have come in handy.
  • Not sure on the frame of the camper. I'm having trouble finding any type of framing information.

    It's a 2004 keystone cougar 294RLS travel trailer.
  • I installed one, and some screws hit studs and one or two missed. I drilled through the wall and installed a through bold with a flat washer and an acorn nut to cover the threads so none are exposed. You have to know it is there and be looking for it to see it.
