- Toot_McExplorerI use to use match sticks broke off in the hole then replace the screw. But now I have found something better.....!!!!! Use weed eater string. just stick it in hole replace screw and it will hold. if you need more double it. works good.....!!!!!

Rivnuts work great for sheet metal, but this is on the laminated body. Way too thick for a rivnut and too fragile for one to seal. I am going to test some JB weld.
I have used the wooden matches seal with Hot-Melt glue, but they tend to loosen up.
Maybe a combination of JB Weld and Matches will do the trick. I will keep you posted.

Rivnuts are available for ANY material thickness. In a fiberglass sidewall, all that is necessary is for you to drill out the hole to get a solid round shape. Rivnuts are used regularly in fiberglass boats and many materials other than sheet metal. If you are really concerned about their holding ability, use some JB Weld around the Rivnut when it is clamped into place.
Rivnuts - doubleGExplorerx2 with glue on toothpick and break off. For glass, marine tex too

Hot glue and JB Weld will loosen up with matches or toothpicks because they do not soak into the wood. Carpenter's glue is the better choice because it's water based and will penetrate the wood and cause it to swell just enough.

Terry - Gau_8ExplorerI agree. Rivnuts are not for this application.

If it is a screw that is used from time to time, I would recommend using a Rivnut. These are installed like a pop rivit but have internal metal threads that can use a machine screw. They come in various sizes. Rivnut tool
X2... this is my recommendation, too. I've used these numerous times, and they work great for a lasting solution. No more stripped holes.
Next time I better read all the posts. Thanks for the correction. - JagtechExplorer
