It would have ended up looking very much the same if I built it.
I thought I was the only one that hated the “standard” 7-way RV plug. I prefer the seven round-pin Pollak plug you used as well.

The RV plug thing just grates on me. They are not all wired the same..as anyone that moves alot of equipment knows. Why a standard is so difficult is beyond me. And, the Pollak's last longer, work easier and are simpler to wire. Oh, and the wiring is always consistent.
I carry adapters, but I can't tell you how many times I've had to adjust them roadside because someone's truck is wired wrong..from the factory. Ugh
The majority of the towing world has one truck, one trailer, once wired, never know the difference. So, it works.
