That’s awesome work Dave.
I love projects like that.
I need this, I want that, I gotta have something else.
Pick through my junk pile and use up some of the valuable cr@p that I’ve been saving forever, scrounge a few things, buy what you have to.
It would have ended up looking very much the same if I built it.
I thought I was the only one that hated the “standard” 7-way RV plug. I prefer the seven round-pin Pollak plug you used as well.
Good job!
:):)
Thanks Kevin..
The RV plug thing just grates on me. They are not all wired the same..as anyone that moves alot of equipment knows. Why a standard is so difficult is beyond me. And, the Pollak's last longer, work easier and are simpler to wire. Oh, and the wiring is always consistent.
I carry adapters, but I can't tell you how many times I've had to adjust them roadside because someone's truck is wired wrong..from the factory. Ugh
The majority of the towing world has one truck, one trailer, once wired, never know the difference. So, it works.
I’ve never heard of a 7-pin Bargman RV plug being wired any other way yet you have seen factory trucks wired differently? Are you sure they weren’t aftermarket installs? The only variable I’ve heard is whether the center pin provides reverse lights and those are optional. Wire colors, however are all over the map.
Now 6-pin horse/utility trailers are another matter. Apparently it’s quite common to reverse the +12v aux and brakes, which I found on my wife’s horse trailer when I used a borrowed commercially made adapter. Plugging it in meant the brakes were locked. We owned that trailer for years prior with a different commercially made adapter that worked fine. They don’t even do so much as label what “”style” of adapter it is.
I like the fact that my truck uses the same connector as every other factor truck and SUV for years. I suppose if you carry adapters to convert each direction you have it covered. I do think the blades are tougher to make a clean reliable connection and wish the industry had standardized on a better style.
Nice trailer build. It looks beautiful and provides mega functionality while doing so.
