I'm all for conveniences. I don't usually camp, I travel. The truck camper is a way for me to have my second home when traveling. Just because I'm traveling, doesn't mean I want to rough it. Just keep it simple. Nobs and toggle switches are far easier to understand and more reliable than touch screens and buttons. The microwave in my AF has an lcd display with a clock. The oven won't operate unless the clock is set. Whenever there is no ac power, the clock looses its setting. So every single time I start the generator to make a bag of popcorn, or heat up some leftovers, I need to go thru a button pressing process to set the clock before it will let me start the oven. Seriously, what rocket surgeon thought this was a good idea? That is typical of technology in a truck camper. Just give me 2 manual knobs like the old microwaves: 1 for power level, the other a timer.
Another thing is electric heating pads. They used to have a mechanical switch with H,M,L, off. Reliable as gravity. On my last trip in February, I bought a new electric heating pad for my injured back with an electronic control digital readout. I plugged it into my inverter, and it didn't work. So I went back to the store and exchanged it. Still didn't work. So I returned it and bought a different brand. Still didn't work. Now I read on this forum that the electronic controls are not compatible with many inverters. This electronic nightmare stuff has no place in a camper. It's a waste of time and money and it's aggravating.
