- kknowltonExplorer III told myself that we could easily not overpack our TT, but we very likely did. Just from our personal experience, you'll pack that camper a lot more than you think you will. I'd pass & go for something smaller.

Ok I'm looking at Jayco jay flight 32' fully load its 9000lbs. My truck can tow up to 8500lbs. I know I'll never fully load it. Would you buy it or stay clear of it?
Honestly (flame suit on) I look at the weighed at the factory yellow sticker dry weight. If the sticker lists the Jayco at 7400lb, and I think that might be close on the 32'. I would pass. You will put close to 1000lb in it, and that puts you at 8400. At which point your TV would be over loaded, because it really can't tow 8500lb. Every pound you load into the truck reduces the tow capacity of the truck by that much. So if you and the family weigh in the 300lb range, and the hitch weighs 70lb. Your tow capacity is reduced to 8130. and if you put wood, or well anything in the truck. The tow capacity is reduced by just that much.
So in short. IF the yellow sticker weight (dry sitting on the lot in front of you) is over 6000lb. I'd pass. - darsben1ExplorerYour truck can tow 8500 lbs maybe
Can you tell us the curb weight of the truck and the gvwr. those are found on a sticker by the drivers door.
Subtract curb weight from gvwr for payload
A 9000 lb trailer has a hitch weight of at least 1200 lbs probably more like 1300 but let us say 1200. subtract that from payload what is left? Add up the weight of passengers and other stuff you plan to carry in the truck. If you have not reached a negative number you may be good to go. But that is with nothing iin the trailer, no water, fridge empty, no clothes
Please post the results - KD4UPLExplorerYour truck's tow rating is based on an empty truck with a 150 pound driver. Passengers, gear, pets, truck accessories, etc. all take away from the tow capacity.
How do you know the trailer is 9,000 fully loaded? Have you weighed it or is that the GVWR of the trailer?
I don't think you'll be happy with the combo. I wouldn't do it. - LwiddisExplorer IIbeverages? I don't want no "beverages" when I'm campin'.
- BizmarksMomExplorerI would get a lighter trailer, or more truck. You'd be suprised at how fast those trailer weights add up. Clothes, food, beverages, water (if you're dry camping), various tools and air compressor, toys (bikes, kayaks, propane grills)... And the truck still needs to haul you and your family - that needs to be added into the equation as well.
- LwiddisExplorer IIYou are considering buying a TT that fully loaded, which you absolutely promise never to do, is over your TV's limit? What's your TV's payload capacity?...even my 2015 Tahoe will "tow" more than your truck. What's your TV max tongue weight? Slow down. Get your TT purchase right.
