Well I got burned on part 3, so I'll try again.
I would not get a diesel without 4x4 because of the bad front to rear weight ratio. It might be OK for gas, but my son uses his all the time because even a gas PU is light in the rear. The OP's trailer is a little heavy for the gas engine IMO, but it can be done. My son and one cousin do it often. But, you'll spend more time at higher RPMs and sometimes that gets old. With the 3.73 it's 4th gear uphill, 5th on the flat, and 6th downhill--but, it will do it all day.
