Are you sure about this?
According to the docs that came with my RAM CTD:Warranty service must be done by an authorized
Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram dealer.
No mention of any authorized Cummins truck service shop.
But really, one extra C$150 oil change per year is just not that big a deal, especially as we're talking about vehicles where the total investment for new is usually more than C$50K + tax. And possibly way more. No need to be "penny-wise and pound-foolish".
Yes, I am 110% sure about it. Not only did I used to work for Cummins, buu I currently work for a medium/heavy duty dealership group that is a Cummins distributor which gives me access to Cummins Quickserve, Insite, and so on. We take our fleet 3500-5500 service trucks to Cummins for warranty repair all the time.
Also, as I said before, there is no way a tech can tell the difference between 15k oil at 6 months and 15k oil at 1 year for normal driving conditions. He wouldn't even be able to tell the difference with an oil analysis either. The only way he could tell is if you drive at low speed all the time, idle a lot, or drive in dusty conditions all the time which you should be changing every 6 months if you drive in those conditions. Also, as I said before, in all other applications for the 6.7L where Cummins states the interval is 15k miles, the time interval is 1 year. Only the applications that are at 7.5k mile interval have a 6 month time period. I will prove it when I get back to work on Monday.
