Yep, I remember when almost all 3/4-ton and 1-ton pickups on the road had 2 doors and an 8 foot bed. Trucks with 4 doors and 6 foot beds were a rarity back then. If you saw a truck on the road with a 6 foot bed, it was likely either a half-ton, or a Japanese mini truck.
