How do you do the switch without leaving some of the older stuff behind? Or, is it okay to leave some and blend them? - Cummins12V98Explorer IIII did a complete fluid exchange on my 11 Ram 68RFE with AMZ/OIL Universal ATF. My temps are consistently lower than other peoples under similar conditions. I also have a MagHytec pan. Take some regular ATF and Synthetic put some on a metal pan and take a torch to each, you will be amazed.
- Paul_ClancyExplorerI'm a big believer in full synthetic in the trans and diffs for tow rigs. I saw a substantial drop in tow temps going from Dex6 (semi synth) to Allison transynd (full synth). I'm fine with dino in the crankcase.

- ReneeGExplorerWith our last TV, an F250 V10, we switched the rear end from a 3.10 to a 4.3 and at the advice of the mechanic, we ran pure synthetic in it to keep it cool. We often stopped and ran a thermal gun on it and it was within range.
- ScottGNomadThe OEM switching over to it is what really convinced me it was worth it. If those guys are willing to spend the extra nickle for it then it must be good idea.
- carringbExplorerWhat 74vette said. Most EO trans fluids are full synthetic now, including Mercon-V, Mercon SP, Dex-VI, Chrysler ATF+4.
They all switched for good reasons. If you have an older fluid like Dex-3 or Mercon (without a suffux) then you will probably get longer transmission life if you switch to one of the newer fluids. - 74vetteExplorerMost of the new trucks are comming with synthetic fluids in the trans. The Syn fluids are said to run cooler and last longer. I am a believer in trans temps and replaced my stock trans cooler with a unit with 4 times the cooling area. The result was a 20-25 degree drop in temps while towing.
