Many household thermostats often use/require a "C" wire for power (24v), unless you use a battery powered one that doesn't require it.
For an RV, unless you plan to stay with an "old school" mechanical thermostat, the digital version you're probably longing for will need to be battery powered.
We use a Hunter thermostat (2, AA battery powered) that also has a remote control, which we keep bedside for cold mornings.
