- TerryallanExplorer III just carry a step stool
- Bionic_ManExplorerI’m a believer in the AMP step. I have one on the back and one on the side. Well made easy install and highly functional. They are better than the tailgate step that Ford has and absolutely no comparison to what GM puts in its bumper.
Honestly it is one of the best mods I did to my truck. And compared to the price of the truck, their cost is immaterial. - cavieExplorerBy a chevy/GMC and get built in bumper corner steps.
- Dave_H_MExplorer II:S I am still using the upside down 5 gallon bucket method.
- RICK-ards_RedExplorerIn the past I carried a small 3 step ladder in the back of the truck. It was light, and handy to access the truck bed.
Now I have a newer GMC with the built in step in the bumper, it makes life even easier. - wilber1ExplorerI have a couple of fold flat step stools, they slide in between my bed box and the rail. One on each side. Cheap and practical.
- OasisbobExplorerI use the bumper and step over the tail gate.
- LIKE2BUILDExplorerI added a Trek Step from Bestop to my Ram 2500. That was one of the best upgrades I've ever installed and it was very easy. When I first got the truck I knew getting up in to the bed was going to be a groin ripper. I shopped around and decided on the Trek Step and I'm extremely happy with that decision. 4 years later it's still working great.
KJ - the_bear_IIExplorerI carry a 5ft step ladder and use it anytime I need to get in the truck bed. The ladder also comes in handy for other uses when working on the trailer or around the campsite.
I strap it to the trailer ladder or it fits cross-ways in the bed for travel. - 2manytoyzExplorer IIThe Amp Research Bed Step looks like a decent unit.
I was fortunate with my 2010 F150. It came with the max tow package, bed side steps, and the tailgate with an integrated handle and step.
While you can't add these items to your stock tailgate, the side steps should bolt on. I find these as handy as the tailgate step.
That said, my setup had two issues. I couldn't drop the tailgate when hitched to the travel trailer. It would hit the Jack. My fix was to move the jack further back. And the step couldn't be used when hitched for obvious reasons.

During: Test fit with tailgate down, trailer hitched.
