I’m not sure a diesel will like idling because of the emissions equipment if not driving down the road..
I have 2 cars with the same engine and when DPF on 1 of them failed, while Mercedes USA could not supply $3500 replacement, I went for DPF delete.
The car passed NV smog, who test for particles, while on rolls with 0 (ZERO) emission.
Funny becouse a year earlier with working DPF it did show some emision. Small % of what's allowable, but still.
The only difference I can think about is that 1st test was done after short drive, while 2nd after more driving.
The I4 MB diesel is real marvel. Not only reliable, great fuel economy, but in worse case scenario, new replacements sell for $6k, while the V6 sibling cost $15k.
I check fuelly and the long vans with this engine do make 30 mpg with conservative driving over long time.
I only wonder why they detuned it down to 163 HP in vans, when in cars it runs 195 HP.
