Tankless water heater upgrade

Thoughts on the Girard Tankless Water Heater. Girard GSHW-2 from pplmotorhomes. Com....... After tent camping all my life. I thought finally being able to afford my own rv.. would mean private hot showers. Granted I haven't actually showered in mine yet. But 6 gallons just doesn't seem like alot. So because im just starting out. Seems worth it to drop $500.00 to $1000. Extra right off the start for endless hot water. I bought a 2011 primetime lacrosse 318BHS. Although the interior is in perfect condition. I've already started thinking about removing the couch and dinette anyway. So what's alittle more demo at this point... right... thoughts anyone?...

  • Have a 10 gallon Attwood with propane and electric. If I run both the gas burner and the electric element while showering, I don't run out of hot water even showering like in the sticks and bricks. Running just 1 heat source, I don't run out of hot water but DW does.

Just curious. Why are you removing the couch and dinette?
  • Have you actually tried showering in your new trailer? I sure would do that first before I dropped $500-$1000 in a new water heater.

We have a 10 gal. water heater in our new trailer, but got by nicely with a 6 gal. unit in previous rigs....navy showers.

Anyway, good luck with it and your planned mods.
  • I'm sure a lot of folks will come on and tell you how great a shower they take with a 6 gallon heater - and both my wife and I can shower on a tank full.
But I would MUCH rather take my time and shower like at home.
I look forward to hearing about any demand WH that works well.
  • Be sure to search this Forum for `tankless' before deciding on what to do. IMHO I would never have a tankless in my RV unless it is at a site with full hookups. I think the rap against them is that one has to have the water on full blast for awhile to get the water up to temperature and keep it there for the duration of the shower. No shower stages eg. rinse, stop, lather up, stop, wash hair, stop, rinse again.
Maybe someone who has one can tell you how great they are.
