My last 2 TC's have been pop ups. Older Northstar and now a Sun Lite. They were perfect for off roading but I kinda got that out of my system. I only hit my head a couple times but I blame that on the steps. I replaced the 2 step ladder with a 4 step and had to re-learn how soon I ducked!!
If I ever replace the Sun Lite it will be with a hard side non basement. The only advantage the Sun Lite has is lower clearance for overhanging rocks and tree limbs. I don't think they get any better mileage as the main drag is against the frontal area behind the cab. Being part tent they don't insulate from noise or cold without some type of Arctic Kit.
