Overstock.com has mattress for reasonable prices if that's an option. They have the queen, short queen, full, short full etc.
This was going to be my suggestion. First thing I got rid of wad the original 1988 queen sized mattress in my camper. There was no way I was going to sleep on that thing. Budget is a concern, and for the amount of time we will spending in it, cheaper is better. Found a gel more foam 4.75" mattress for $189 with free shipping from overstock. Hard to beat at that price. If I hate it, I'll just throw it away and buy a new one.
Scott - exhaustipatedExplorerAfter doing a lot of research on Amazon and Ebay I had to finally buy a new mattress from the manufacturer (Mastercraft Inc.)which made my old mattress. I had to have a 5" thick 60"X74" short queen mattress to fit in the cab-over and nobody else had that size or thickness. It was delivered the other day so now I can rest assured that I have the right one for the camper.
- JimK-NYExplorer IIIf you are looking for a mattress with a total thickness of 5", a typical mattress is not going to work. Instead consider a piece of dense foam 4" thick with a 1" memory foam topper. You can buy appropriate foam from numerous suppliers. I had good luck with buyfoam.com. I would suggest calling to determine the best density for your use.
If you are willing to increase the mattress thickness to 6-8" you will have a lot of choices. I would recommend looking at Overstock.com.
In any case do not try to find an inner spring mattress. Foam is much more durable, comfortable and lower cost. - Nappers23ExplorerOverstock.com has mattress for reasonable prices if that's an option. They have the queen, short queen, full, short full etc.
- rekoj71ExplorerI was looking for an RV King but couldn't find one in my price range and just bought a cheaper but nicer but regular size memory foam mattress (with the cool gel top and dense foam bottom, really nice), off brand, off of amazon, and then cut it to fit. they come rolled up in a box so you can get them into about any camper, just have it close to where you want it when you cut off the shrink wrap as they are difficult to move once open.

I wrote on the Avion thread about building a mattress for an RV. Perhaps it would be helpful: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25053498/srt/pa/pging/1/page/289.cfm
