tekonsha,prodigyp2 vs Primus IQ

A friend of mine is getting ready to buy a brake controller.I suggested a Tekonsha. They have a Primus IQ,and a Prodigy P2.The P2 is about $50 more.I read the specs and can,t find any difference in the two other than the price.Any comments?
  • What is the application? Is this for a TT or some other type of trailer.

I have had both and found both to be good units. The P2 is for 1-4 axles, allows for 360 degree installation, and is for either electric or electric over hydraulic. The Primus IQ is for 1-3 axles, allows for 70 degree installation, and is for brakes electric brakes.

My preference would be for the P2. I like the manual arm better than the push button on the Primus IQ, and the LED is easier to see at a wider variety of angles on the P2. I'd say if money is tight, the Primus IQ will perform very well and is a quality unit. I would not have upgraded if we hadn't sold the vehicle with the Primus specifically wired for it.
  • Its for a 2 axle TT.Probally 27 to 29 foot range.

Then it really is down to a matter of preference for the LED and the manual engage button vs arm. He should consider where he wants to mount the unit also...if the 70 degree mount doesn't work in his TV, then the P2 is the default answer. One other reason to go with the P2 is that you never know what vehicle you may have down the road and it will work in more mounting positions.
  • Prodigy seems to be the controller of choice on here. I have one and love it. Very user friendly and its made in Michigan, which I like.
    :)
