My diesel horror story. 349,000 I lost a water pump and overheated the truck before getting it replaced. I think this lead to the truck pushing out a head gasket at 371,000. Due to small repair cost to new motor differential, short down time, & factory warranty I chose to swap in a new motor. New complete motor turbo fuel pump & 24 mo unlimited mileage warranty cost $5,500 & another $1500 for the R&R. Today the truck has 487,000 on it.
The only thing I get to compensate me for the cost of this over having a gasser is 30 mpg Hwy or averaging 14 mpg with a 8k box TT instead of what a gas truck would get. I do get warranted 10k oil change interval but have to buy a $30 fuel filter water / separator every 30k per warranty requirements. Plus oil changes cost me $65 instead of less for a gas truck. Not sure how far the avg gas motor lasts in a pick up or what it would cost to fix or replace a gas motor with a new factory warranted motor. This was on my 14 Ram Ecodiesel.
