Granted solar and wind power would be basically non-existent if it weren't for tax breaks. It just seems like if EV's were really economically practical, the government wouldn't have to step in to support them as much as they do.fj12ryder wrote:jdc1 wrote:That is what bothers me about the EV onset. Apparently there is no profit to be made from charging these EV's, and the government has to step in to put all these in place. Who is going to pay for the operation/replacement/maintenance, if they aren't profitable in the first place? Gas stations were profitable and built by the thousands, but charging stations are not, so the government has to get into the act?
Patience, Grasshopper. A conglomerate of corporations has been formed to build and install 50,000 charge stations starting now. This does not include the federal infrastructure plan to install tens of thousands more.
THere is some private investment. Wal Mart and other large retailers are installing them. Restauraunts along the interstate are also installing them. I would not be surprised to find these private Companies are getting a tax break.
But keep in mind lots of companies recieve tax breaks as incentives to do all kinds of things. Arguing tax breaks is a entire different issue.
