- catfishmontanaExplorerI can't believe you guys are worried about aluminum. You guys are really going to flip in a few years when carbon fiber takes over. There are already lots of carbon fiber exotics, and it's trickling down. My mustang has a carbon fiber driveshaft. My snowmobile has a carbon fiber overstructure and bumper.
- hone_eagleExplorerActally I was wrong, the bed is 100% al,but thick enough to be equal or better then steel.
Take it from someone who has had a al mast on a sailboat ,that material is very tough you couldn't dent it with a ball peen hammer - way way tougher then steel.
It is neither the same alloy or hardness as your typical beer can. - hone_eagleExplorer

Here's a question - what is the bed going to look like after hauling a few loads of firewood? Trucks are being moe for people who don't use thm as a truck. You see them with the fiberglass bed covers that limit what you can put back there, and the low profile tires and goofy rims. I'll stick to trucks made of steel.
bed bottom is steel and has been tested

And for all you Boeing guys, they don't test crash airplanes to my knowledge :E
You know like a crumple zone or such. Those wings do flex though :B
Yeah they did. If you watch documentaries about flight. You will see jet airliner crash tests. - hone_eagleExplorer

- goducks10ExplorerCan you get a Ford F150 to match an aluminum Airstream? That would be a lot of shinny going down the road.

The perfect storm is a diesel 1500 err 150 that deliverers 28 MPG and won't crush you or your loved ones in a accident. If that F150 gets 30 MPG is one thing but that insurance increase of 10% is another. Let me guess here, knowing how you drive :B , yours must be in the $2500 range annually. It will take many gallons to make up your $250 added insurance cost. Especially when the Ram pulls donw a nice 28.

Your insurance estimate is not even close, but perhaps in a liberal state like yours that number is possible. :W
Your right... The 1500 diesel perfect storm! Here's the senerio :B
A RAM that pulls down a nice 28mpg while the price of diesel is ~$0.60/gallon more than gas with a cost premium of ~$2,000 on the VM motori option on the sticker with > $100 fuel filters while your grocery getter idles the truck in the mall parking lot for extended periods when all of a sudden the "Drive Truck to Clean Exhaust" message pops ups so now the vehicle is being driven to clean the DPF when all of a sudden the HPFP takes a dump and the warranty is voided because the vehicle was accidently filled with $4.00/gallon gasoline. When asked why did you fill a diesel truck with gas instead of diesel honey, and the answer was the yellow handle spout on the pump was $0.60/gallon cheaper! :W
