In my brief 78 years, I have learnt that advice from the experienced is preferential to advice from the opinionated. Thanks to Jefe for this post.
Linda and I were full timers on a 41' sailing yacht for 23 years, we learned the hardest part was having school every day except legal holidays and weekends. Storms and big waves were nothing. I-95 is far more dangerous than anything we experienced far off-shore. The naysayers all cautioned about weather conditions. We had insurance from Lloyds of London for coverage of our circumnavigation. Lloyds said that according to actuarial studies these are the main dangers of ocean yachting: A fire at sea, being run down by a ship, falling out of ones dingy while drunk! No mention of weather. Experience is, as is said, the best teacher.
We too have traveled fairly extensively in our TC (see below for specs) it has been a glorious adventure from the Florida Keys to Alaska and all about, mostly boondocking.
