I simply wanted to see if people could give reliable sources to support their claims (as opposed to personal anecdotal experience). It appears that the answer to that is no - which is what I was curious about. I did not want to have the argument for the 87,000th time on this forum, I wanted source information. Unfortunately, it's an internet thread, so people will engage the argument no matter what!
Nonetheless, I think I've gotten the answer I was looking for. Cheers!
So you think the answer is no one can give you a reliable source so you know the answer.
Apparently you didn't check with your state troop on the legal issues as mentioned nor have you checked Fleet Fords weight specs. Doing both will shed light on ratings that matter vs rating that don't matter.
We can't do your leg work with your state troop folks for you. See step #1 in my above reply.
And for my step #2 fleet ford specs.
Spends some time looking at Fords weight ratings and mechanical specs.
You will find F250 and F350 srw can have the same GVWR/FAWR/RAWR numbers. We can find Fords mechanical specs to go along with them.
We can find the F350 can have a 10000 GVWR or a 11500 GVWR in the same exact truck along with mechanical specs to prove it..
More points to ponder. The F350 SRW has over 13 different gvwr's they use on the same trucks. Many with the same RAWR. Note** some smaller rear axle specs are for gas trucks and larger specs for diesel powered trucks.
And the F150 has 19 different gvwr packages and many of these can use the same RAWR.
Do the math on gvwr payloads. Ford like to brag their F150HD with 8200-7850 gvwr and 4800 rawr has a 3100 lb + payload. Do the math. These trucks rear axle can weigh in the 2200-2300 lb range....now add 3100 lb payload in the bed = 5300-5400 lbs for a 500 lb overload. This is one reason many of us say use the trucks RAWR for how much load the truck can safely carry and stop.
Many of the Ram/Dodge and GM trucks can be the same.
Your answers are out here. It requires digging them out for each vehicle.
Spend several days looking around Fords spec website and Ford truck forums and you too will see what others are saying RAWR is the safest way to figure payloads.
