The Gas-Diesel Fuel Price Differential

My local fuel station has diesel for $3.77 and reg gas for $3.73 today.

I will have to check today when I'm out.

I haven't looked at gas prices recently because my gas fueled rig is up on blocks. It's been about a month since I put gas in it.

Diesel is at 3.89 at the Local Maverick C-store north of Spokane where I fuel up.

I also use the full site before going on trip to map out places to get fuel along the way. what sucks is the maps they use do not have exit numbers on them and most of the station info the dummies posting put the actual street address in the form and exit if close to interstate last.

should be the other way around.. I need the exit number first or gas buddy need to start using google maps which show exit numbers

Well for diesel, It is taxed at $0.06 cents more per gallon at the federal level, but most states pack on the same amount of taxes for gasoline and diesel. Diesel has gotten a bit more expensive to process/make because of the ULSD requirement that's out there now (15ppm). However, I'm wondering if the same will happen to gas, as it's going from 30ppm down to 10ppm of sulfur. Of course, the EPA is estimating a penny per gallon price increase, but knowing big oil they would want to recover their capital expense within 5 years. So we'll see from that front. Personally, I hope more of the line-haul trucks move to CNG or LNG so that more diesel will be available for the regular guys (downward pressure on fuel price). It looks like the europeans (including FCA) and even GM are betting big on Diesel. I'm also figuring that diesel supplies may be a little tighter on the east coast as you have to build your refineries to produce the right quantities of each fuel. who knows (other than big oil).

Here in NW Calif. diesel has been 15-17 cents cheaper than gas all year.
Diesel $4.15, gas $4.27.

Diesel fuel prices here in Nevada stay at $3.69 may be $3.59.
We will get cheaper prices when it snows here in July.
They are loosing truck drivers diesel too high.
So I will not pay high prices...I go about 100 miles from the house.
I am not cheap It just P888S me off.

In the almost 10 years I have owned my diesel the price of diesel has varied from under $2. to over $5. I paid the price and went on. Still wont give up my truck for a gasser. JMHO.

I still can't understand why this is not price gouging. I drove in the 70's and 80's and then diesel was a by-product that came off while cracking gas. (a by product) It was always cheaper than gas as it did not take the refining process as much as gas. I can't believe that it now costs more to get diesel. Just a big corporate rip off.

I don't understand fuel prices:

On 5/28 in Chandler, AZ gas $3.34, diesel $3.46, 12 cents difference.
On 10/22 same stations gas $3.13, diesel $3.65, 52 cents difference.

Filled diesel yesterday $3.56 and gas today at $3.13. Both in Oxford, AL.
