August of 2005 I bought my F150 4x4 Lariat with every option available and paid $36k, financed by Ford's no interest loan. Today it has 77,500 miles. Drove to South Central Oregon a few weeks ago and it averaged 18.5 MPG; around town 13.5 MPG.
When towing TT, it blesses me with 9-10 MPG, even more if I didn't drive 60-65 MPH. My brother in law just paid $75k for his new "used" F250. WTF I say....
In 2006, I bought a used 2005 Ford F350 Dually V10 from a Ford dealer. It had a little over 20,000 miles. It came with a factory extended 4 year, 75,000 mile warranty, which gave me 4 years of warranty to almost 100,000 miles.
It cost $20,000 out the door, including tax and license.
20 years later, it has only been at Ford once for a repair to check on an ABS light which they fixed under warranty (loose connector). It now has 146,000 and everything works fine. Even the radio, heater and AC work.
In 2019, I ordered and bought a Ram 3500 Dually HO and it cost much more than the Ford, and at the time I didn't care. Since then, It had three recalls, plus was in the shop numerous times for radio, AC, Heater, clunks, and transmission issues, etc.
Ram couldn't fix the radio, heater, AC or clunks even though TSBs exist.
Even though the title of the thread is "The price of new trucks is beyond comprehension! ", in my opinion, "The incompetence of Ram and their dealerships s beyond comprehension."
Could've bought one of these.
