The retirement tow vehicle planning...

Well right off the bat its $20,000 cheaper then the first pick up.The second truck it out lives is pure profit.

My bet is that when you actually crunch the numbers that Volvo isn't going to save you anything, but if you think it is WAY more comfortable than a new pickup it was the way for you to go.

Peterbuilt is not comparable to a Volvo for RV towing- both fruit but one is a apple and the other a orange.
A rehab class 8 is cheaper(used) has more then 2 lifetimes worth of miles compared to a new diesel duelly,and way WAY more comfortable then a pick up or a peterbuilt.
I bought because I could not afford two new pick ups by the time I get off the road- but dont even think of financing one - cant be done and if you love that new truck smell every couple of years ......well its not for you.

I've got a beautiful class 8 Peterbilt that I enjoy when I need such a truck but there is no way I would want to haul a 16,000 lb RV around with a class 8 truck when my little SRW pick up handles the 5ver just fine. I can't imagine owning an RV too large for a new 1ton dually. I haven't done much figuring but does the overall size of the money pot really change all that much whether you spend $60,000 on your truck and trailer or $160,000?

Lol, ya. I went and looked at a few used ones. Cut 1/3 off that price. I think of I plan for it it'll be good. Maybe a used one for sure. There was an m2 106 for 68k with 120000 miles... Just broken in.

Can't beat a med duty if you're putting the miles on and don't intend on using it as a daily driver. But if you want a one size fits all truck, then it's hard to ovelook any of the new 1 tons. They are all over 800ft-lbs at the crank, bone stock and have the drivetrains to back that up. And Ram and GM have seriously stepped up their chassis' and suspensions as well. Look at the '14 Ram dooley coming out with air ride rears.
Tough call. Cool factor and peace of mind going a little overkill on the tow rig or creature comfots and driveability of a pickup?

I haven't driven any of the fancy med duty trucks. I'm sure they're pretty luxurious, but cant get over thinking I'd be driving a big Penske van around!
