Thinking about buying a 02 Lance 845

I'm looking at buying a used 2002 Lance 845 camper. I have a 2017 f250 diesel short bed. I haven't measured but I'm concerned if this will clear my bed rails and cab. I plan on towing my boat so I'm also trying to figure out the best hitch extension. I have a 2.5" hitch. My boat loaded weighs right around 5000lbs. I've also noticed lance used a unique connector compared to the standard TV 7 pin. My truck came with the connector in the bed for a fifth wheel. Can I use that
  • I bought a used 2001 845 twelve years ago and love it! It's home for me about 6 months of the year.
  • Clearing the cab (and/or bedrails) is a common thing easily taken care of with a 4x8 sheet of 2” thick rigid foam from Home Depot or wherever. Thick horse stall mats cut to fit are also popular, or even just some 2x4s.

4x4 trucks sit pretty high and boat trailer tongues are pretty long, I’ve towed many boats behind campers with no extension. If you get one, I’d keep it as short as possible. It probably doesn’t need to go out past the camper. Back your rig up to the boat and check.

If I remember right Lance had a six-round-pin connector.
I’m pretty sure you can buy a ready-made cord with the Lance connector at one end and the modern standard seven-flat-pin on the other end. Or just use whatever cable you have and change the plug on the end that doesn’t fit to one that does.

Campers don’t need the seventh wire, the extra is the trailer brake controller wire.
  • Get Lance's special plug from them. It connects between bed and cab.
Use rubber mats under camper in bed of truck. Build 2x4 and plywood box if need to be that tall WITH rubber mat.
