I find it rather surprising that you are reading about so many emission issues with DEF equipped trucks.I am on several Ford forums and emissions issues are very low on the complaint list.
Pre DEF trucks from 07-10(Ford, Chevy) had many problems and since Dodge recently went to DEF, their emission complaints have also dropped.
