I understand your hesitation in regards to the emissions equipment, I had a 09' Ram that was nothing but emission related problems. It would seem that the newer systems using DEF have been much more reliable. I would consider giving a diesel another try especially if I were towing heavy. As far as manufacturer, if you like the Ford get the Ford.
