Thinking of trading -- thoughts?

I'm thinking of trading for what will ultimately be the most expensive sofa I've ever bought. I have a 2012 Arctic Fox 1150, loaded, wet weight as read by WA St DOT scale - 5280.

I'm looking at a bare-bones stripped 2012 Eagle Cap 1160 dual-slide. No AC, no Gen, 1 awning (mine has 3), 1 tv (mine has 2), not even electric water heater, VERY stripped. Owner says wet weight as he takes it camping is 5,000lbs. I'm sure that's a little light, but given how stripped it is, hopefully not too far off.

Weight not withstanding, who can speak to the merits of Eagle Caps?

The one thing I didn't like about the EC, Happijacs (I have a similar name for them that starts with a C). They were the 4500 series, same that failed on my previous Arctic Fox 1140. And like my old AF, they seemed to strain under the load of the camper when I checked them. Mine has Rieco's.

  • Booty,
I just purchased a 2013 EC 1160 from a dealership near you as a matter of fact(Apache Camping Ctr in Tacoma). We had a minor issue that needed to be repaired before we left the area to head East(home). Other then that we have love our new camper. Cannot believe to room in this thing and how comfortable it is. We too don't have the electric/gas hot water heater...was kind of shocked that it didn't come with it. We have the Happijacks as well. Time will tell on their reliability. We looked at a lot of TC's before we pulled the trigger and we were impressed with the quality that EC produced. I think no matter what brand you look at your going to issues with anything. If your looking for a model with a couch in it, I think you'll be very happy with the 1160.

    Good luck

I would never trade out a loaded AF for a EC that has no water heater, couch or no couch.

It's of course got the standard propane water heater, just no electric. But then again, I'm rarely plugged in. I have 4 trojan golf carts in my AF right now, I'll be keeping those. I have a whopping 4 hours on the generator, I use the inverter almost exclusively.
  • Only one post report on that model: 2013 EC 1160
Adventurer campers bought Eagle Cap and continue to build that brand.
    They still use happyjacks.
  • Be sure to check out adventurer 116 ds. It's new and might be my new favorite.
  • You might be able to get those model Happijacs swapped out for their new and improved version since the TC is so new. I know some have done that.
Dont take this the wrong way but I would never trade out a loaded AF for a EC that has no water heater, couch or no couch.
  • i love truck campers with rear sofas. this is a quality unit. if you can handle the weight buy it. it is the widest truck campers i know. they are 102 inches wide before slideouts. chalets are 96 inches-for a comparison
  • I might be interested in your AF!

I have a Eagle Cap 1050 that is a great camper, however we would really like some more room. Our EC is just a dinette slide.
  • Interesting trade. I haven't looked at one since they changed ownership. I'm sure someone will chime in. Why aren't you going shorter, too?
