I owned an 01' 2500HD with the 8.1/496 CID Vortec..SON, it was an awesome engine, though it didn't meet a filling station it didn't like...Heck, I'd recommend the 8.1...it was a towing animal....just be prepared to spend money at the pumps........but, it did run well...sounded good too:)
