I've had good luck with Garmin GPS. I have two Nuvis, a 750 and a 1450 LMT neither of which is still in production. They have features that I like (and now require).
1. They will allow you to do "Routes". This lets you specify and save the exact route to a destination rather than letting the GPS decide for you. Note that not all GPS in general or some Garmins have this feature.
2. Upload Points of Interest (POIs). My Garmins allow me to upload my own POIs. I have a POI database of all the campgrounds we have ever stayed in loaded into the GPS and add to it as we stay in a new CG. Additionally there are many POIs freely available on the internet at "POI Factory" and other sites.
I lucked out on the first GPS (the 750) in that it had those two particular features. I did not at the time really understand how nice they are to have. I would not purchase a new GPS without at least those two functions.
