I too was reluctant to get involved with smart phones. While researching for iPhones for our DGD I got a twofer deal on a pair of iPhone 4's
They are excellent for our purposes. We have had good coverage from
Verizon, altho their billing department could be better.
The smart phones, for us, are multipurpose. They have several GPS programs and loads other useful apps, including the internet etc.
I found a good deal for the phones on craigslist. I've taken a few free "how to" programs from Verizon. Having 15 y.o. DGD around has helped a LOT. There is a lot to learn!
