This style camper hatch may put you in trouble for rot:

silver...our Eagle Cap has an HDPE panel for the bottom of the LP compartment.
It is vented/drained on the bottom and sealed all around the edges.

I have never seen water pooling in here...but if it did there is nothing to damage.

Maybe you should use some composite rather than wood for the bottom panel?
