Really ? Apparently you've never needed ABS brakes. Once you've had to use them, you will understand.
In fact, I'm pretty sure there is one young female car passenger that is alive today because I had ABS on my 2500HD Duramax. Her boyfriend (driving) turned right in front of me, completely oblivious to my presence, as I was traveling at 45 mph in the middle lane of a 3-lane city street. My only chance to not hit them was to absolutely stand on my brakes with no regard for any possible skid. It worked. My front bumper ended up about a foot away from the passenger door of their compact car. At the last moment, she saw me coming and tried to climb onto his lap to get away. I will never forget her eyes as I bore down on them.
Sounds like a hell of an experience.
Sorry for the confusion. I think you need ABS, but I've never had a life and death experience with them. When they came out some people said "a good driver can do without."
