Time to kill the Cat

For anyone wondering, it appears that about 170k Miles is all you can get out of a Dodge Cummins Cat converter running a cheap, not so clean tune it’s whole life.
Been watching egts for a couple years now and after the same benchmark drive this summer, loaded heavy, same temps and grade, egts are a solid 200deg higher than a couple years ago.
Same trip, used to not be able to break 1200-1300 set in 5th gear up this grade. This year I could hit 1500 easy and 6th was renamed the smelter gear!
Anyone got a sawsall I can borrow?? Lol.

    I'm sure they rolled their eyes too. After they admired your deezul of course. And now, like me, they know all about the common courtesies of the dry side.

    The ole smoke screen is still fun in some instances. Like last week, loaded heavy, idling thru a truckstop parking lot in 1st gear and a group of Seattle snowflakes visiting Idahoo decided to make me hit the brakes while they waited until I was right there and then decided to walk directly in front of me across the parking lot.
    Game on boys!
    Gave me just enough time to roll out right as they passed, hit 3rd, flatten the pedal for 2 seconds and add some smoke to the vapes they were all nursing!

    I was pulling the 5th wheel home when my EGR valve stuck. Gave a whole new meaning to rolling coal. Had it floored and just kept losing speed. This was on the interstate. Got off the highway and nursed it home on back roads.

    I saw a roadside sniffer on my last trip. Real dilemma for me... push in the clutch and coast past or hammer down and fill it with smoke.... I chose to push the clutch in.

    Fortunately, not in CO anymore and it probably won't be my truck in a couple years or sooner. It would already be down the road if Ram would get to gettin on the 8 speed auto.

    On a similar note, I'd give those roadside sniffers in Colorado plugged sinuses everytime I saw one setup on an on ramp (when it didn't have CO tags, lol).

    It's a 5.9.
    Been wondering for years how much soot you can pack in there.
    Pretty sure I notice a seat of the pants difference too at high throttle %. Used to get violent if you mashed the throttle at 2000rpms in any of the first 5 gears. Now it's a little mellow-er.

    Which motor is it? My 2007.5 6.7 got clogged up. The EGR valve and EGR cooler needed cleaned. Pretty easy process if you have any mechanical abilities. Remove them both and soak in Purple Power ($6.99 a gallon at Auto Zone) over night. I changed out the purple power a few times as it turned black. Rinse both out with water and reinstall. Truck is back to driving like new. I bet it would clean out the converter just fine also.
