The last time out, I noticed that the lights were a bit dim when runningon battery power - I checked the battery level and it was showing only one red dot on the meter (2007 Jayco 23B). Well, we're getting ready for our first trip of 2014 and I had the battery checked at three places - all three said it was bad. SO, I need a new deep cycle battery.
My exisitng battery came new with the camper when we bought it in 2009; it's lasted 4.5 years. It's a 12V Deka DP24 with 23 amp rating of 140 minutes.
So, what have you folks found to be reliable, cost effective RV batteries? What are some to avoid? Do I need the exact same size? I'm thinking that I can go to a different group size as long as it fits in my battery box, right?
Thanks for the guidance.
God bless.
It really depends on how much your dry camp and what your amp draw is. For someone who is about 80% connected to full services and 20% dry, I have two Costco 6v golf batteries running in series. That gives me 208ah of coverage. The only issue I have with them is that I need to water them. When we picked up our new trailer this weekend, I didn't see that the mechanic watered my batteries all the way up to the rim of the vent holes...I've been dealing with acid all over my garage and in my battery boxes. It's not pretty. I'm seriously considering two 6V AGM sealed batteries or a 8D battery. Check out Lifeline or Trojan. They are expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for.
