Tire pressure sensors and 19.5" wheels

So you have a late model PU and you switch to 19.5" wheels. How do you maintain the use of your OEM TPS monitor?
  • When I bought my 19.5s I had after market TPMs put in them. The ones on the Ford are a high pressure rubber stems which I didn't want even if they would work on the 19.5s. The ones I put on the 19.5s would play nice with the on board monitor sometimes and other times it would not. I have a TPM system (a Doran ) so I installed the sensors on the 19.5s and used this in place of the onboard and just ignored the light. It worked this way all the way to Alaska and back. When I got back I switched back to my stock tires and wheels as I had decided to trade the truck in.

I now have no need for 19.5s and have to figure out the best way to sell them as I now have a dually so no need for them anymore.
  • I installed OEM Ford ones on my 19.5" wheels. They will not work over about 90psi. They cause an error. I cold fill mine at 90-95psi all the time and have not had any issues. Got about 10k on them that way. If I had to do it over again I would not install them and just deal with the light on the dash.

I would try putting them in your spare first and see what happens. Some people and their trucks have luck with it, others dont.
  • Most of the OEM units will not handle the pressure of the 19.5's. Even if they do, You would have to reprogram the limits of the alarm which may not be possible. My guess is you will need to go to an aftermarket TPMS if you want that functionality but it will not integrate with your current system.
  • All of the oem that I have seen is with the sending unit attached to the valve stem. I would say you could move the units to the new rims. JAWAG
