Tires/max wear

5 th wheel tow vehicles (Single rear wheel):
What is your favorite LONGEST WEARING TIRE?
Looking at my 265-70-17 Michelin LTX M/S 2 , I am disappointed with the amount of wear from towing. Minimal/normal wear on front tires,
rotate every 10k 80 psi etc..............
Tires have 3 center 7/8 inch WIDE ribs with a 1/2 inch space on either side(4 total)--NOT MUCH RUBBER ON THE ROAD FOR A TIRE THAT WIDE. Maybe that accounts for the wear under the pin weight?
Not pleased with the LTX tires..............
Following a 9,000 mile + trip there was significantly MORE wear on the drive tires than the steer tires.

SO what are your recommendations for a longer wearing tire? What tires have given you the best wear?

TV-04 Ram cummins 3500 SRW-Ft xl weight-3900, rear xl- 5000, 12,000 5er

  • Just me but 80 is about 15 PSI to much on your fronts. Clearly the center sipeing is almost gone and the outers are in fine shape. Surprised the side walls lasted that long though from what I've read :W Hey now that I look at it your outside rear is showing almost the same pattern.
They kind of look like a male baldness pattern :B And I know hair buddy.
  • 40K on these MS2's. 2011 RAM Dually 4wd. Lots of towing. 80 front all the time 45 solo and 60 loaded rear.

You are running WAY too much air pressure! Since you know your weights use the weight/inflation chart for your tires. Add 5psi to what the chart says.

Bridgestone Duravis R500 HD. Not real good in Winter though.

thanks-the r500hd looks like a much better (longer wearing)tread pattern than the Mich LTX m/s

My tires a not overloaded but the tongue weight of the TT is about 1000 lb and the rear axle is close but never over. I don't rotate the tires but the front always last almost twice as long as the rear.

Dont worry about RAWR, what is the total load carrying capacity of the tires?

  • Have you run your loaded combination across the scales? My first guress is your overloading the rear axle, well tires at least. If thats the case, there is no tire that will stand up.
  • I have found that when towing heavy with my FW and SRW truck, that I have to rotate the tires about every 5K in order to get even wear. 10K miles is way too much for my tires, no matter what the brand.
